Sedum 'Frosted Fire'

Frosted Fire variegated stonecrop, scientifically known as Sedum ‘Frosted Fire, is valued for its distinctive variegated succulent foliage. A sport of ‘Autumn Fire’, it stands apart with green, finely serrated leaves edged in creamy-yellow margins that add a bright, eye-catching presence to the landscape.

More compact than ‘Autumn Fire’ and far tidier than the floppy ‘Autumn Joy’, Frosted Fire Sedum forms upright (to 38 cm), substantial mounds of vibrant bicoloured foliage. Thick, sturdy stems are crowned with large clusters of star-shaped, bright pink flowers that deepen in colour as they mature. Blooming from August through October, this variegated stonecrop delivers some of the last and most impactful colour in the perennial garden.

The mildly fragrant, nectar-rich flowers are a magnet for bees and other pollinators, bringing life and movement to the garden late in the season. When left standing, the dried flower heads add attractive winter interest and provide a valuable food source for birds.

Exceptionally drought tolerant thanks to its water-storing succulent leaves, Frosted Fire Autumn Stonecrop thrives in full sun and is extremely cold hardy to zone 3a (-40 °C). This variegated sedum excels as a border or container plant and is ideal for mass plantings, rock gardens, and xeriscaping. The blooms are equally beautiful as fresh or dried cut flowers.
