Royalty Purple Raspberry is a unique hybrid cross between red and black raspberries (Rubus subg. Idaeobatus and Rubus occidentalis), bred in New York. Released in 1982, Rubus 'Royalty' is the most popular purple raspberry variety on the market. A self-pollinating, floricane variety (bears fruit on second year growth), it produces large fruits that can be harvested while red for a tarter traditional raspberry flavour profile, or harvested when purple for a sweeter blackberry flavour. Use Royalty Purple Raspberry for fresh eating, jams, jellies, and pies. Royalty Raspberry is a truly unique fruiting plant for your edible garden.
While self-pollinating, Royalty Raspberry plant will produce larger, and better crops when another raspberry is present. An upright, bushy plant with canes growing to 6 feet tall, it is easy to harvest. Bears fruits in 2 -3 years. A long harvest window of mid-July to August.
This Late season purple raspberry variety has good hardiness, and very good productivity. The fruit flavour is less acidic than Brandywine.
