Nanking Cherry, or Prunus tomentosa is a native species that produces an abundance of excellent juicing, and jelly fruits in mid-summer. Mix with crab apples for a sweet treat. Has beautiful, fragrant pink flowers in early spring, before the leaves appear. It is a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub that is relatively round in form. Green foliage turns yellow in the fall. In mid-summer edible fruit appears in the form of cherry red drupes. This is a high maintenance variety that requires pruning after flowering. Great for attracting birds to your yard.
