Ribes rubrum 'Rovada' is an erect, bushy deciduous shrub, which grows 3-5' tall. Clusters of greenish-yellow flowers bloom in spring, but are not particularly ornamental. However, the long, cascading clusters of bright red currants are very eye catching. Ripening in July, 'Rovada' is heavy bearing. Its tart, succulent fruit is harvested to make jams, jellies and pies; and is used in a number of cocktails, and summer drinks. Medium green leaves are 3-5 lobed, and are aromatic when crushed. Prefers a sheltered exposure. Attracts birds, bees and hummingbirds. Resistant to rabbits. Rovada Redcurrant is also particularly mildew-resistant.
