Ribes uva-crispa 'Jeanne', commonly known as Jeanne Gooseberry is an upright, bushy, and very productive dessert gooseberry. Grows to 4 feet tall and wide; and produces up to 4 pounds of large, sweet, full-flavoured, dark red, thin-skinned berries. Jeanne Gooseberry is a late season variety. Harvest fruits July and August.
A hybrid of American gooseberries (Ribes hirtellum) and European gooseberries (Ribes uva-crispa), this selection has very few thorns making cultivation easy. This "thornless" red Gooseberry is highly resistant to multiple diseases. It is the most resistant cultivar to powdery mildew, and is also very resistant to White Pine Blister rust.
Plants reach mature bearing after 4-5 years, but begin fruiting as early as year 2, and will remain productive for 15-20 years or more. It is best to space this disease-resistant gooseberry at 4 feet - 5 feet for optimal airflow. Very hardy (zone 3a).
