Black Mission fig tree is also known as 'Franciscana' Fig. The Black Mission Fig fruit is large with purplish black skin, and sweet pink flesh. This black fig tree produces 2 crops a year: a heavy first crop (breba) on old wood in mid-summer, and a second crop (main crop) on new shoots in mid fall. Fruits are best for eating fresh or drying.

Ficus carica 'Black Mission' grows best in moist soil conditions, but it will not tolerate standing water. It requires a minimum of 6 to 8 hours of sunlight daily. Black Mission fig forms a multi-stemmed deciduous tree that can grow up to 20 feet in height with an attractive, ornamental dark green foliage.

Black Mission fig tree is hardy to zone 7a. Grow it in a container year-round. Keep the container outdoors in full sun in the summer, and move it indoors during the cold winter months (from October to April).
