Helleborus 'Dark and Handsome' WEDDING PARTY® Series

Helleborus ‘Dark and Handsome’ WEDDING PARTY®, commonly known as Dark and Handsome Black Hellebore, has large, fully double blooms reaching up to nearly 8 cm (3 in) across. The striking black-purple flowers contrast dramatically with their lime green centres and certainly live up to their name!

Hellebores are prized for their vigour, showy floral displays and large numbers of blossoms per plant. Dark and Handsome Hellebore is part of the distinguished WEDDING PARTY® Series, bred by Hans Hansen, showcasing richly coloured, double-flowered selections celebrated for their exceptional garden performance.

Often regarded as a harbinger of spring, hellebores are among the earliest perennials to bloom, bringing fresh life and colour to the garden. They provide an important early-season source of nectar and pollen for bees and other beneficial pollinators. This black Hellebore plant produces excellent flowers for fresh floral cut arrangements. The blooms are also traditionally displayed floating in a shallow bowl of water, creating an elegant centerpiece.

After flowering finishes in May, the deeply lobed green foliage of Helleborus ‘Dark and Handsome’ continues to provide texture and visual interest throughout the growing season.

Thriving in partial to full shade, hellebores are ideal for mass planting beneath deciduous trees and shrubs, along borders and in containers. They naturalize beautifully in moist woodland settings, where their extensive root systems gradually expand. Hardy to zone 4a, Dark and Handsome Lenten Rose is low maintenance, drought and salt-tolerant, and resistant to deer and rabbits.
