Silver Mound Wormwood is a highly popular, compact, perennial with distinctive silver foliage. This plant is exciting because of its soft, cushiony, silver green foliage that resembles reindeer lichen and provides an excellent groundcover. It works well in any garden or planter as a filler, border, or in combination with other flashy perennials to really make them stand out. Silver Mound Artemisia is also drought tolerant so could be considered for rock gardens or xeriscaping. These plants do have tiny yellow flowers that appear in August but since they are not showy, many growers choose to remove them to preserve the appearance of the foliage. Silver Mound Wormwood is one of the few Artemisia varieties that does not behave invasively and doesn’t spread through underground rhizomes.
