The Japanese Painted Fern gets its name from its foliage that boasts blues, greens, and silvers that contrast against its midribs. Its triangular fronds are a soft dark green with an overlay of silvery hues accented by contrasting dark maroon stems. The fronds of the Painted Lady Fern become greener as the season progresses and temperatures increase. As one of the easiest and most rewarding hardy ferns it is terrific for a shade border, in a rock garden, or in a mixed container.
