Developed in Ottawa, Ribes uva-crispa 'Sebastien' is a self-polinating currant, with minimal thorns, red fruit, and bell-shaped flowers . Grows to 5 ft wide and tall. It flowers from March to May, and the fruit ripens from July to September. It is often picked when under-ripe, tart and very firm, when making making pies, jams, and preserves. Full ripe fruit becomes quite soft and sweet - delicious for eating out of hand.
