The porcupine grass is one of the most upright and most colourful of the Miscanthus cultivars. While "Zebra Grass" is usually reserved for Miscanthus sinensis 'Zebrinus', the cultivar 'Strictus' can also be called "Zebra Grass". Its almost vertical leaves boast a bluish green colour with showy yellow variegation. Rose coloured feathery panicles rise above the foliage, in late summer; and silvery seed heads carry on, throughout the fall and winter. Both the flower and the foliage are used in fresh and dried flower arrangements.
