Citrus x latifolia 'Bearss Lime', known as Persian Lime Tree and Bearss Lime Tree is a heavy bearer of juicy, greenish-yellow, seedless, lemon-sized fruit. The shrub is densely branched, glossy-leaved, and grows to 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide. It’s waxy white flowers are beautifully tinged with purple.
This seedless Lime is a cross of key lime (Citrus x aurantifolia) and lemon (Citrus limon). Bearss Lime produces fruits that are vivid green and glossy when immature, turning yellow as they mature and ripen in late winter into spring. They may produce fruit year-round indoors. Growing to 3” across, Persian Lime fruit is lower in acid, juicier, and thicker-skinned than the popular Key Lime.
Bears Lime (also known as Tahiti Lime) can be trained as a tree, or small shrub. Grow as a specimen plant in a large pot, especially where you can enjoy its fragrance. Place Persian Lime next to a patio, a deck or an outdoor eating area, where it will be easy to harvest for meals and drinks. Grow several as a hedge or screen. Only hardy to zone 9a, it must be brought indoors when the temperature dips below -6 °C.
