Astilbe 'Mighty Chocolate Cherry'

The flowers of Mighty Chocolate Cherry Astilbe are the darkest red of all astilbes and are a favourite of butterflies. This tall, showy, red Astilbe cultivar features raspberry-red buds that open into deep crimson, densely packed flower spires held on rich, dark burgundy stems. The dramatic plumes rise well above the deeply cut, dense foliage, which ranges from dark green to chocolate-maroon, providing a continuous display of colour throughout the season.

Astilbe ‘Mighty Chocolate Cherry’ starts blooming in mid-summer and continues into late summer, often persisting long after many other perennials have faded. This red Astilbe is exceptionally cold hardy (to Zone 3a; −40 °C) and, like all astilbes, prefers consistently moist soil and shaded sites.

This red false spirea variety makes excellent cut flowers for both fresh and winter arrangements. With its upright, clumping habit and impressive height, it is an excellent choice for foundation plantings or the back of perennial borders.
