The Indigo Gem Haskap is one of the best variety to enjoy fresh. Fruits are sweet and great used in dessert. The maximum sugar content recorded is 17°Bx (Brix) which makes 'Indigo Gem' one of the sweetest if not the sweetest varieties. Its elongated fruits weigh in average 1.3 grams. 'Indigo Gem' is a mid-season variety, with slow maturing fruits offering a long harvest period! Fruits can be picked by the end of June. It produces in average 4 kg (max 5 kg) of honeyberries per plant or 13.2 t/ha (max 16.5t/ha). In order to increase cross pollination and get higher yield, it is recommended to plant the cultivar 'Aurora' (another mid-season variety) near 'Indigo Gem'. 'Indigo Gem' upright bush can reach 5 ft tall and 4 ft wide. Its compact habit and do not drop off fruit characteristics makes this variety suitable for commercial production or home garden planting.
