Blue Forest™ Haskap plant produces large, tasty, dark blue fruits. They ripen in June and have a sweet-tart, candy-like flavour, and a great mouth feel. A late blooming variety, Blue Forest Honeyberry has a compact spreading form, but has large, deep green foliage. It will grow to be about 2 feet to 3 feet tall and wide. Lonicera caerulea 'Blue Forest' will need another late-blooming haskap for pollination (such as Blue pagoda, Blue Velvet, Boreal Beast or Boreal Blizzard).
Honeyberries are very hardy, and well adapted for many climates. Blue Forest Blue Honeysuckle prefers well-drained, acidic soil (not unlike blueberry plants), and full sun to partial shade. Use in edible landscapes, orchards, and containers.
Blue Forest Haskap plant will need a year or two to grow before fruit production; and will produce approximately 5 to 10 pounds of fruit annually. The berries are great fresh, or in jams, jellies or baking. A very healthful fruit, Haskap berries contain large amounts of antioxidants, such as anthocyanins, polyphenols flavonoids, vitamin C, vitamin A, fibre, and potassium. They have three times the amount of antioxidants of blueberries, and more vitamin C than oranges.
