Rubus 'Illini Hardy' is an erect, self-fruitful, thorny shrub, which produces one crop of fruit per year. This hardy zone 4 blackberry is noted for its excellent winter hardiness, and free-standing nature. Spring clusters of white, 5-petaled, rose-like flowers, give way to blackberries of excellent eating quality, which mature in summer (mid-to-late July). Given that Illini Hardy is a bramble, it makes an attractive hedge that attracts birds and butterflies.
