Dove Tree is an award-winning, medium sized deciduous tree with spectacular and very unique blooms. Large, drooping, creamy white floral bracts appear in clusters that contain the reddish-purple flowers. The masses of white floral bracts look stunning when they flutter in the wind, and give the tree the appearance of being full of doves, handkerchiefs, or little ghosts (thus the common names). The flowers produce greenish-brown, golf ball sized fruit. The foliage is bright green, heart shaped, and has serrated edges. The leaves change to orange and red in the fall. The bark is a cheerful cinnamon brown colour and exfoliating, adding winter interest to this tree as well.
Dove Tree (Davidia involucrata) grows best in a consistently moist, protected location with organically rich soil. This plant is an excellent specimen.
