Black currant berries are very healthful, and rich in vitamin C, potassium, iron, calcium, and antioxidants. Black currant is self-fertile.

Consort Black Currant bush features chartreuse, bell-shaped flowers that bloom in May, and then produce medium to large clusters of shiny black fruit. The flowers and fruits are beneficial for pollinator species and wildlife. Consort fruit is ripe and ready to harvest in mid-late July. The attractive green foliage turns yellow-orange in the fall. The whole shrub gives off the characteristic fragrance of Black Currant.

Consort Black Currant Shrub is easy to grow is and very cold hardy. It prefers full sun with high soil moisture. Consort currant plants are susceptible to leaf spot (anthracnose) and powdery mildew, but resistant to white pine blister rust. Of value where resistance to rust is required.
