The Boreal Blizzard Haskap produces heavy yield and the largest honeyberries on the market. ‘Boreal Blizzard’s berries are more than twice as heavy as ‘Tundra’ or ‘Borealis’. Fruits weight in average 2.8 grams for a maximum of 3.9 grams. This is the perfect variety for consumers who enjoy larger berries. It has an excellent flavour, similar to 'Aurora'. 'Boreal Blizzard' holds onto its fruits very strongly which increases the period to pick up the fruits. Due to their huge sizes however they will start dropping on the ground after 3 weeks. The huge berries are also more sensitive to bruises when harvested and should be preferably hand-picked (not mechanically harvested). This variety is well suited for the fresh market. Boreal Blizzard Haskap needs to be planted near 'Boreal beast' and/or 'Boreal Beauty' in order to produce the best yield. Its resistance to mildew and sunscad is excellent.
