Actinidia deliciosa 'Tomuri' (Tomuri Fuzzy Kiwi) is a beautiful ornamental vine. This Actinidia deliciosa Male (Male Fuzzy Kiwi) cultivar should be planted near Female Fuzzy Kiwis cultivars to enable fruit production. Tomuri Kiwi is a late bloomer and particularly well suited to fertilize Actinidia deliciosa 'Hayward', 'Vincent'; and improve the yield of 'SOLLISIMO' and 'Jenny'. It could eventually be used to pollinate varieties of Actinidia chinensis (golden kiwis) as well. Planting Tomuri Kiwifruit near female varieties is necessary for fruit production. Only one male Kiwi plant is required to pollinate 6 to 8 females.
The flowers are large, ornamental, slightly fragrant, and creamy white. The blooms appear in June on previous years' growth so heavy pruning in the fall or winter is discouraged. This fast-growing woody vine can grow large and tall, reaching about 10 m in height. The foliage turns yellow in the fall. Tomuri Kiwi Vine is hardy to zone 7a (-18 °C or 0 °F). For gardeners living in colder areas than zone 7a, it is recommended to plant early in the season to give the plants time to establish; consider mulching around their roots in the fall; and cover at least the basal stems with a winter cover. Alternatively, it can also be grown in a large container that can be brought into a cold frame greenhouse during the coldest months. Once established, female plants and a pollinating male plant could be planted in the same container in order to save space.
Native to China, the Green Kiwi or Fuzzy Kiwi, is locally commonly called "Yangtao", meaning "Strawberry-peach".
