Salix purpurea 'Green Dicks' is another outstanding basketry and fedge willow. An elegant, male willow with slender, long, bright olive green stems in spring. Stems turn to red in summer, and to a bright green in winter. Dried, the flexible rods are light greenish brown; and perfect for fine basketry. Annual coppicing brings more rods, and full sun brings more intense stem colour. Catkins hold equal colour interest; they start out almost black, develop a rose hue, and finally turn yellow with pollination. A high yield variety, producing up to 80 rods per plant. Deer and rabbit resistant.
