Eutrochium maculatum, commonly known as Joe-pye weed or Spotted Joe-pye weed is a statuesque perennial (grows to 7 ft tall and 4 ft wide), with a profusion of fragrant purple pink inflorescences, and spotty, purple stained stems. Blooms continually from midsummer to fall. Medium to yellow green leaves form whorls in group of 3 to 6 around the main stem. Large, late fall to winter seed heads provide food for birds, and ornamental interest to the winter garden.
Spotted Joe-pye Weed is native to damp meadows and water margins. At home in cottage gardens, native plant gardens, along water features, and in wild and naturalized areas. A lovely cut flower for mixed bouquets. Low maintenance and trouble free, growing in full sun to part shade. Self-seeding, and spreads quickly, but is not a nuisance.
