Blue-green Moor Grass (Sesleria heufleriana) is a densely tufted, clumping, hardy grass. The glaucus blue green leaves (which emerge green, and turn bluish green over time) reach up to 16 inches tall, with an upward, and very slightly arching habit. In early spring, attractive flower spikes on 1.75 ft tall stems emerge white, and turn a wonderful, rich dark purple-brown. This cool season grass is a great addition to alpine and rock gardens, containers and mixed borders. Balkan blue grass is extremely drought tolerant and hardy. Plant with spring bulbs for a wonderful display of texture and colour.
This early-blooming grass grows in full sun or part shade. Prefers some shade, and a bit of extra water in hot, dry climates. Hardy to USDA zone 4a, and generally tolerant of low water conditions, and less than stellar soils, it is highly adaptable.
