Northline Saskatoon Berry plant (Amelanchier alnifolia 'Northline') is a dazzling, medium-sized, deciduous shrub with spring blooming flowers and flavourful ,edible berries. Lovely clusters of slightly fragrant white blooms appear between April and May, distinctively before the leaves emerge, giving the shrub a unique appearance.

Northline Saskatoon Berry Bush also produces larger, more flavourful fruits and begins producing berries at a younger age than other cultivars. This variety is self-fertile and can produce fruit without another Serviceberry cultivar nearby. The edible berries are round, dark blue to purple coloured, and have a sweet taste. Saskatoon Berries gorw in clsuters, and ripen in June / July to the size of blackcurrants. Great for eating fresh, baking, or making jams and juices. Northline Saskatoon Bush usually starts bearing fruits within 3 to 5 years and can take up to 15 years to produce a full crop. The yield can fluctuate from 4400 kg/ha to 10 800 kg/ha.

The foliage of Northline is an attractive dark green that changes into a fiery orange yellow in the fall. Northline Serviceberry produces many suckers at the base, which can spread into a dense hedge over time. Remove suckers to manage size as desired. Keep the strongest and healthiest suckers to rejuvenate the plant. Saskatoon Serviceberry can be grown as a multi-branched shrub, or pruned to be a small ornamental tree, which is popular in urban areas.

The flowers are highly beneficial to pollinators as an early spring food source. Northline Saskatoon Berry plant is a native cultivar. It is native throughout Canada except for eastern Atlantic provinces. Amelanchier alnifolia 'Northline' is very cold hardy (zone 2a or -45 °C), easy to grow, and tolerant to urban pollution. It grows in average to 2.5m (8 feet) tall. Its rather low stature makes it ideal for U-Pick orchards.
