First Blush Hosta is known as the first “red-leaved” Hosta. The burgundy to bronze blushed green leaves have both red leaf stems and veins, which yields a dramatic effect. The rich blush holds best in cooler weather, and the burgundy will dim in the heat of the summer. (Morning sun or filtered sun is the best for hostas, but avoid mid-day sun as it will burn the leaves.)
A striking, small, red hosta, it reaches 1 foot tall and 2 feet wide; and is ideal for the front of the border, or in large pots and planters. Plant Hosta 'First Blush' en masse in partial to full shade, or mix with other hostas to great effect. In early summer, this red Hosta displays spikes of fragrant, funnel-shaped, purple to lavender flowers bloom.
One of the reddest hostas on the market. Loved by pollinators. Easy to grow.
