Helen von Stein Lamb’s Ear (Stachys byzantina ‘Helen von Stein’) is treasured for its exceptionally large, velvety silver-green leaves. Also known as Giant Lamb’s Ear, this standout cultivar features impressive leaves up to 20 cm (8 in) long - nearly twice the size of the species - with the soft texture and charming shape that inspired its common name.

Grown specifically for its attractive ground cover, the lush foliage forms dense rosettes that create a thick mat up to 30 cm (1 ft) tall, and spreads by runners to 60 cm (2 ft) wide. The ‘Helen von Stein’ cultivar produces rare to no blooms - a highly desirable trait, as gardeners often remove the flowers from other Lamb’s Ear varieties just to enjoy the foliage.

Giant Lamb’s Ear provides interesting texture, colour and contrast to any perennial garden. An excellent choice for borders, edging, rock gardens, and of course, for ground cover. A great choice for a children’s garden, as kids like to touch the fuzzy soft leaves. Helen von Stein Lamb's Ear is also used as a fill-in plant for large container gardens.
