Holy Smoke Big Bluestem is native to much of the Great Plains and prairie regions of central North America. It is deer, drought, and black walnut tolerant, and will also thrive in low nutrients, sandy or heavy soils. Very erect flower stems rise to 5' over 30" stands of upright/arching foliage. Holy Smoke Turkeyfoot grass stems emerge grey green in the spring, mature to green in the summer to finally turn purplish pink in fall.
