Hicks Yew (Taxus x media 'Hicksii') is a wonderfully dense, evergreen shrub perfect for tall yew hedges and privacy screens. It can mature to a height of 18 to 20 feet with a spread of 6 to 10 feet wide over 20 years. However, Hicksii Yew is more often seen as a 9 to 12 foot tall shrub. The long, upright-growing branches naturally form a wide, columnar habit that works well as a foundation plant, or placed in pairs at entries or doorways. Hicks Upright Yew provides wonderful winter interest with its glossy green needled foliage and gorgeous, pink ornamental berries.

Taxus x media is a conifer created by the hybridization of English yew (Taxus baccata) and Japanese yew (Taxus cuspidata). It is also commonly called Anglojap Yew or Anglo-Japanese Yew.

Hicks Yew grows well in full sun, and is also an excellent evergreen for part shade areas. Requires good drainage. Hardy to USDA Zone 4a, but protect these plants from harsh, drying winds. Pruning is best done in early spring before new growth appears. A low maintenance evergreen, it takes shaping well. Drought and pollution tolerant; and rabbit resistant.
