Caroline Raspberry (Rubus idaeus 'Caroline') is an everbearing raspberry cultivar. 'Everbearing' means that it produces two crops yearly; a fall crop (August to October) on the new (current year) canes and a late spring/early summer crop (June) on the previous year canes.
'Everbearing Raspberry' is also known as Fall-bearing Raspberry, Fall-fruiting Raspberry, Primocane-fruiting Raspberry, Primocane Raspberry or Primocane-bearing raspberry.
'Caroline' produces high yields of large, bright red, juicy, conic berries. The berries are very firm and have an intense flavour. These qualities make them a wonderful jam and preserve, and freezing berry. They are also wonderful for eating fresh, and baking. Caroline Red Raspberry is a great performer for both commercial fruit production and home gardeners.
Self-pollinating, Caroline fall-fruiting raspberry plants have thorny canes that grow to 6 ft tall, and require staking. Leaves are highly textured and deeply veined. Lovely white blossoms emerge in spring and summer. In late summer and fall, 'Caroline' ripens on average two weeks earlier than 'Heritage' everbearing raspberry. It will take Caroline primocane-fruiting raspberry 2 to 5 years to reach mature size, but will it start producing berries in its second year. 'Caroline' performs best when given shade in the afternoon.
Will attract birds and butterflies to your garden. Its oustanding resistance to grey mold, tolerant of phytophthora root rot make it a perfect choice for organic gardening.
