The legendary "Black Bamboo", Phyllostachys nigra has culms that slowly turn from green to black.  The contrast of mature black and new green culms is especially stunning in large plantings. Nigra has small glossy leaves, which appear quite feathery on hanging branches. New shoots have a unique and highly decorative appearance. Gain a hardiness zone with winter cover. You can also grow Black Bamboo  indoors, or grow it outdoors in a planter and bring it indoors for the winter. Fertilize with Nettle Tea.

In USDA Climate Zones expect the following mature size culms heights:

  • Zone 7 - over 30 feet
  • Zone 6 - 8 feet
  • Zone 5b - 6 feet
