Yellow Ribbon Cedar (Thuja occidentalis 'Yellow Ribbon') is a distinctive evergreen with showy, dense, yellow-green foliage that maintains its colour throughout the year. Scale-like, aromatic, yellow-green to green, the foliage appears in flattened sprays. Yellow Ribbon Arbovitae is a semi-dwarf, slow-growing cultivar with an upright, conical to pyramidal habit (especially as it matures). It grows 8 -10 feet tall shrub with a spread of 3 - 4 feet. The red-brown bark will exfoliate on mature branches and trunks. Urn-shaped cones to 1/2" long mature in autumn to reddish-brown.
Plant wherever a bright pop of year-round colour is needed. Yellow Ribbon Cedar attracts birds to the winter garden. Works well for a privacy screen or hedge, and as a windbreak. Plant in containers to frame pathways and entrances. Yellow Ribbon Arborvitae is native to central and eastern Canada. It is hardy, easy to grow, and well suited to humid and cold climates. Likes moist, well-drained soils. Plant in full to part sun. Tolerant of clay soil, Black Walnut, and air pollution.
