Yellow Bird Magnolia is a stunning, large flowering tree that matures to 40 feet tall with a 25 foot wide canopy. It has intensely yellow, fragrant, tulip-shaped flowers that grow to 3โ across. It flowers in late spring for about 3 weeks before the foliage emerges, and will bloom sporadically after the leaves appear. When the foliage emerges, it is glossy, 6" long, and dark green. It turns yellow in the fall.
Unlike many other hybrid magnolias, which can grow as a shrub or with a tree-like form, Magnolia โYellow Birdโ will grow with a single trunk in a tree-like form. An attractive, vigorous tree it has a conical shape that spreads more with age. The roots of Yellow Bird Magnolia tree grow horizontally, so they need a lot of room. (Its roots do not grow invasively or deeply.) Mulch under the tree, or grow ground-cover with a similarly shallow root system to protect the roots.
Makes a wonderful specimen in the landscape. Plant Magnolia โYellow Birdโ where its scent can be appreciated, and cut blooms to bring its lovely fragrance indoors. Wonderful specimen. Use in woodland and fragrance gardens. Attracts butterflies and songbirds.
