Schisandra chinensis 'Sadova N° 1 is a autogamous variety (self-fertile). It produces abundant amount of red fruit grapes. The fruits, the leaves and the bark are known to contain schisandrine (a toning substance). The Magnolia Vine is also know as "Five-flavour-bery": the aril is sweet, the pulp is sour, the seeds are tart and bitter and the seed extract tastes salty. Dried leaves can be used to make tea. This self-fruiting Magnolia Vine does best planted along walls, fences and trellis.
