Ruby Slippers Oakleaf Hydrangea is a medium-sized, well-rounded ornamental shrub. It displays large, showy, conical flowers that open white, tinge pink, and finally turn ruby red in autumn. A truly spectacular 9" long flower, it is wonderful in both fresh and dried floral arrangements.
The shrub reaches 3.5 feet tall, with a spread of 5 feet. Ruby Slippers Oakleaf Hydrangea is very similar to Queen of Hearts Oakleaf Hydrangea, but its smaller size makes it more suited to smaller gardens. Hydrangea quercifolia 'Ruby Slippers' has large, oakleaf-shaped foliage, with deeply cut lobes. Deep green in colour, the leaves first tinge mahogany, then turn deep mahogany with the cooling temperatures.
Use this pink Oakleaf Hydrangea in small gardens to great effect. Its long season of interest, wonderful fall flower and foliage colour make it a perfect candidate for a specimen, small hedge, and foundation planting.
Ruby Slippers Hydrangea is a cross of 'Snow Queen’ and ‘Pee Wee’.
