Polemonium yezoense 'Purple Rain', also known as Purple Rain Jacob's Ladder is a clumping perennial growing to two feet tall and wide. It has beautiful purplish green, dense foliage, and showy, fernlike leaves. Large clusters of blue-purple, star-shaped flowers on tall stems bloom from mid-spring to early summer. The small flowers have prominent stamens and cream anthers.
Wonderful in butterfly and pollinator gardens, rock gardens, cut flower gardens, borders, meadows, woodlands, and in patio containers. Plant this Purple Jacob's Ladder en masse, or in small groups. Deadhead frequently, and cut back mid-summer to get the most out of this long bloomer.
Easy to grow, and hardy, Purple Rain Hokkaido Jacob's Ladder prefers even moisture and some shade. Attracts butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators to the garden. Deer resistant.
