Mountain Fire Japanese Pieris (Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire') is a gorgeous evergreen shrub with a showy spring foliage display. The new foliage starts out a lovely cherry-red, and looks quite beautiful against the deep green glossy foliage of previous years. This shrub has an upright habit and reaches 6 to 8 feet tall, and 5 to 6 feet wide. Drooping clusters of slightly fragrant white flowers bloom in April. The early blooms are great spring source of nectar for pollinators. Mountain Fire Pieris blooms set on last year’s branches.
Mountain Fire Japanese Andromeda prefers full sun to dappled shade exposure and organically rich, slightly acidic, moist, well-drained soil. Winter protection is needed. This elegant shrub is ideal for low hedges, foundations, patios, and accents.
