Salix purpurea ‘Bleu’ is another French selection of Salix purpurea. Grows up to 12 ft tall and produces new stems in abundance. Coppice for 6 ft – 10 ft long young red and green stems turn reddish-purple when mature. Mature foliage is dark bluish-green with the underside of the leaves a soft blue-grey. Catkins are a beautiful black. Overall, a stunning willow. A wonderful basketry variety, the rods of Salix purpurea ‘Bleu’ are soft, and extremely flexible. They turn a light blue grey/green when dried. Wonderful for living willow fences & structures.
