Foxtail Barley gets its name because the distinct feathery flowers resemble the tails of red foxes. This hardy, ornamental grass is native to North America and thrives in full sun and is not fussy about soil conditions. It pairs perfectly with flowering perennials, and is a stunning plant for borders, beds, and is very impactful when planted in a large swathe where the graceful pale pink flowers will sway in the wind. The flowers bloom in late spring to summer and are green with flushes of pale pink or purple and fade to light tan as they mature. The feathery flowers are great in fresh or dried arrangements.
