The brilliant red foliage of the Emperor I Japanese Maple Tree (Acer palmatum EMPEROR I 'Wolff') makes this specimen stand out from the rest. Often compared to the common 'Bloodgood' Japanese Maple, the Emperor I is a newer cultivar with brighter scarlet autumn leaves, especially noticed when the sun shines through the leaves.

Another bonus of this Red Japanese Maple is that the leaves generally emerge two weeks later than other upright Japanese Maples, making it less prone to being damaged by early frosts. The pink and red spring flowers are small and pretty, but not showy at all.

Throughout summer, it will enhance your landscape with beautiuful, dense, deep reddish-purple foliage. The cool autumn will set the foliage ablaze with red against its blackish-red bark. These foliage colour shifts and changes make Emperor One Japanese Maple tree a spectacular specimen tree. While other Japanese Maples may have problems with sun scorch, Emperor I tends to be more heat tolerant, even when in full sun. It also holds its colour well even in shady locations.

With a maximum height of 20 feet, and width of 15 feet, this slow growing tree makes a great addition to small and large gardens alike. This cultivar is also known as Red Emperor Japanese Maple (Acer palmatum 'Red Emperor')
