Hetz Midget Cedar (Thuja occidentalis 'Hetz Midget') is a compact, dwarf cedar with a ball-shaped habit, and refined green evergreen foliage. A dense shrub, it grows quite slowly to 4 feet tall and slightly wider. A good size for small gardens; rock gardens; or planted in mixed borders, as a specimen, or in planters. Plant Hetz Midge Globe Cedar en masse in larger gardens for a wonderful swath of texture.
Slow growing and very hardy, Hetz Midget Dwarf Globe Cedar prefers sun to part shade, but will lose foliage will if it doesn’t get enough sun. Likes moist, well drained soils. It does best in a somewhat sheltered location as drying winter winds can damage the foliage. Mulch Hetz Midget Cedar in winter, and wrap to protect in hardiness area colder than zone 3a (-40 °C).
