Dr. Alexander Fleming Peony is a very popular, award-winning peony. An early bloomer, its bright rose, double flowers rise above mounds of lovely deep green, divided foliage from spring to summer. Desired by gardeners and butterflies alike, its intense, sweet fragrance is greatly admired. Paeonia 'Dr. Alexander Fleming' grows to 2.5 feet tall, with a similar spread.
Happy in full or partial sun (but preferring full sun), it is known for its adaptability to a variety of soils, as long as they are well-drained. This double pink paeony will bloom for a fortnight with side buds adding to the display. Plant in swaths for maximum effect, and as specimens in beds and borders. Makes a great foundation plant with a sunny exposure. And of course, use Dr. Alexander Fleming Peony as a cut flower in bouquets.
This variety was bred in 1950 by Dutch breeder Blonk. It is a cross between Sarah Bernhardt and Bunker Hill. Dr Alexander Fleming Paeony is two shades darker than Sarah Bernhardt.
Low maintenance (clean up those spent blooms), long-lived, and hardy to USDA Zone 3. Tolerant of deer and rabbits.
