Autumn Moor Grass (Sesleria autumnalis) is a densely tufted, clumping, hardy grass. The finely textured, bright lime green leaves reach 1 ft tall, with an upward, and slightly arching habit. In midsummer, attractive flower spikes on thin stems grow to 1.5 feet tall, and finally give way to loose silvery white panicles with a gentle arching nature. Brings great movement to the garden. When planted en masse the affect is luxurious. Autumn Moor Grass is a very good choice for areas of mixed grasses, where there is a transition from short to taller grasses.
Sesleria autumnalis is reasonably drought tolerant and fits the need for a small grass that stays compact. Grows in full sun or part shade. Hardy to USDA zone 5a, and tolerant of low water conditions (do not overwater), and a variety of less than stellar soils, it is highly adaptable and versatile. This cool season grass is an “Award of Garden Merit” ((UK) Royal Horticultural Society) winner.
