Amsonia x Butterscotch™ has starry, blue, flower clusters on fine, green foliage which turns a striking golden butterscotch colour in the fall.

Amsonia x Butterscotch™ is a vigorous hybrid cultivar of Amsonia hubrichtii. The green, feathery-looking foliage is the reason for the common moniker of Threadleaf Bluestar, and it brings graceful movement to the garden in the slightest breeze.

The star-like, light blue flowers grow in clusters atop and amongst the foliage, blooming late spring through to early summer. Attractive to pollinators, this hybrid is an excellent addition to your butterfly garden. The clumping habit of Butterscotch Amsonia hubrichtii will keep your borders green and graceful past bloom time until the real show begins in the autumn. The foliage, growing up to 90 cm in height with a spread of just over 1 m, turns a rich golden butterscotch colour amongst its red stems - a truly spectacular sight especially if in a mass planting!

Native to Arkansas and Oklahoma (hence another common name - Butterscotch Arkansas Bluestar), this perennial is hardy to Zone 4. Preferring full sun to partial shade, and moist, well drained soil, Butterscotch Amsonia hubrichtii is an easy, low maintenance plant. Amsonia BUTTERSCOTCH hybrid blooms longer and more uniformly than its parent, has deeper colour in the fall, and does not suffer from tip dieback that sometimes disfigures the more familiar form. Threadleaf Bluestar is a true three-season delight!

Please use availability information as a guide only. The weather is a fickle thing, and impacts when our plants are actually available for shipping. Please be aware that we are not answering emails regarding plants availability. The best advice we can give you is to check back once in a while, choose a size option and check the current stock.
