The most striking of the variegated elderberries, Sambucus nigra 'Pulverulenta' (Pulverulenta Elderberry) has very pretty, finely veined pure white and green foliage. The striped and mottled foliage is in beautiful contrast to the dark elderberries. Slightly fragrant, creamy white flowers emerge in June.

This dappled Elder is a reasonably vigorous, deciduous and hardy shrub, as wide as it is tall if left to grow naturally. However, it is tolerant of hard pruning, making it perfect for smaller gardens, also. While you may plant this variegated elderberry in full sun or partial shade, its foliage does best in a partially shaded spot.

Plant as a specimen, as a hedge or in shade garden borders. Especially striking when planted in contrast with dark foliage plants, particularly those with purple-hued leaves. Wonderful in naturalized and woodland gardens, as well as cottage gardens. This variegated elderberry is not a high fruit producing variety, but it is stunningly beautiful. Fruits ripen in late summer.
