Red October Big Bluestem is native to much of the Great Plains, and prairie regions of central North America. This Fall Red-leaved Big Bluestem is deer, drought, and black walnut tolerant. It will also thrive in low nutrient, sandy or heavy soils. Very erect flower stems rise to 5' over 30" stands of upright/arching foliage. Stems emerge grey green in the spring, deep green foliage darkens to purple in late summer, then vivid scarlet in autumn for spectacular late-season colour.
