Prickly Currant is a native species producing dark purple berries. Also called Ribes Lacustre this describes its natural growing conditions as Lacustre means, “found in lakes”. This hermaphrodite plant thrives in wetlands but can also grow well in medium moist soils. The medium sized shrub is commonly found in full to partial shade location. The fruit produced can be made into sauces, jams, and preserves and are a yummy treat for birds and deer.
