Salix x fragilis f. vitellina ‘Bouton Aigu’ is a French selection. Leaves are bright green, have a fine, toothed edge, and a waxy surface. Stems emerge green, then turn gold, and finally a lovely red. A beautiful light purple when dried, rods are very slender, and flexible. Coppice annually so that you have a great harvest for basket making. Highly ornamental colour but not necessary the easiest variety for basket making as it tends to be brittle. This red willow makes excellent winter garden interest and cut flower arrangements. Small gardens if coppiced. Fresh rod colour: red. Dried rod colour: purple
