Developed in Canada, Rubus idaeus 'Boyne' is perfect for Northern gardens. Reliably heavy producing, and hardy to USDA zone 3a, it is well suited to winter in Canada. It produces medium sized, very sweet, shiny, ruby-red berries used for muffins, breads, jams, pies and preserves. Rods are medium sized, and do not require staking, despite the over-abundance of berries they hold. Self-pollinating. It produces clusters of pretty, rose-like, white flowers in spring. Fruits ripen in early/mid July, on second year canes. While it grows in partial shade, full sun produces sweeter berries. 'Boyne' is a floricane (summer bearing) raspberry. Floricane raspberries need to be pruned yearly to remove old canes. This early-season raspberry attracts birds and butterflies. Extremely disease resistant.
