Native to the Northern United States Chasmanthium latifolium is extremely hardy. It is a a loosely tufted clumping grass with graceful drooping flower heads. The highly decorative oat-like green flower heads age to bronze by late summer. Flowers are visually delicate and shimmer and rustle in the wind. Lance-shaped foliage turns yellow-gold in winter. Ideal for containers and arrangements, borders and woodland settings. Partners beautifully with bamboo. Of interest from June through October. Chasmanthium latifolium is commonly called Northern sea oats, River oats, Indian woodoats or Inland sea oats.
